Commissioned for the documentary series How Money Shaped the World (Terranoa).
Photogrammetric recording of a dozen coins from the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, among them issues from Athens, Rome, China and the early modern European empires. Coins are demanding subjects: they are small, highly reflective and almost flat, and the relief that carries the information is a fraction of a millimetre deep. The capture combined cross polarization, to suppress the specular response of the metal, with focus stacking, to hold the entire surface in focus at macro range. Metal and roughness were then rebuilt so that the pieces read as struck metal under any lighting. Being handed objects of this rarity is one of the privileges of the work.
