Personal study. Caligae, the heavy hobnailed sandals worn by Roman soldiers.
Reconstructed from excavated leather finds and from depictions in funerary and monumental relief. The upper of a caliga is cut from a single piece of leather, and the study concentrated on getting that pattern and its lacing to read correctly on a foot rather than on producing a flattering object shot.
